Simple Women's Daybook

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...It is dark...ugghh. Before Daylight savings time I loved getting up before dark. I always have a hard time adjusting the time changes, so now I am waking up later and it is still dark and it makes me tired

I am thinking...about all the things I need to do to pack up for our trip this weekend. It is only a short trip, in state, but it seems we always take the same amount of stuff whether we are just going into Orlando or all the way out to California. Actually I think I pack more when we travel close because I can put it all in the van versus when we fly I am limited to only what I can fit in a suitcase..hhmmm

I am thankful for...feeling good this week. Last week, I slipped and ate something with gluten...I really don't even know what, but by the end of the week, I felt so bad, mentally more than anything. It is like being in a fog and not being able to move. I don't realize how bad it is until I come out of that fog and start to feel better. So I am thankful for feeling alive again

From the learning rooms...we are back on track and the kids are doing good. I ordered new science books...Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day. After their excitement over the birds a couple of weeks ago, I thought this would keep their interest. I also received our resurrection eggs , so we will start those when we get back from our trip. I think I am going to pull out the lapbook that we did last year, maybe we will be better at it, this time around :)

From the kitchen...quick and simple is the plan this week

I am wearing...pj's and my robe

I am creating...a pink fuzzy scarf for Breanna, should finish today. Then I am starting a shaw for me...of course now it is warming up here but we will be able to use them when we go to California next month

I am going...hopefully no where today. My hubby comes back home this morning for a couple of days, but we have alot of work to do for upcoming trips. I have to make sure everything is ready for 4 conventions with 4 different chefs within the next week. Hopefully I have all the travel arrangements correct and I don't send someone to the wrong place!!!

I am reading...my bible

I am hoping...to remain calm and patient with the kiddos today. They haven't adjusted to the time change well either, so they have been alittle grumpy the past few days.

I am hearing...my crazy little puppy chewing on anything he can find. I am really going to miss him when we go out of town, even though he drives me bonkers!!! This is the first time we will be leaving him at the kennel and he just seems so small and helpless, but I should probably feel sorry for Miley and the other animals that will be there with him, because he is quite the "yapper" so I am sure it will not be a quite kennel while he is there

Around the house...still working on decluttering and organizing. The kiddos have gotten into and are being very helpful

One of my favorite things...the quite of the house before everyone wakes up. It helps me to get ready for the day

A few plans for the rest of the week: school, work and travel

Here is picture for thought I am sharing... Whooaa hooo..i got the pic in the right place!!!

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...cloudy but still a beautiful day

I am thinking...that I shouldn't be on the computer...but I just can't help myself

I am thankful for...a lazy kind of day

From the learning rooms...the kiddos are doing their school work quietly and without me standing over the shoulders. They are getting better at working independently

From the kitchen...nothing but a big old mess. Hoping to make a menu plan today and get to the grocery store..we have been eating out too much lately.

I am wearing...leggings and a big sweater

I am creating...right now all my "creating" is revolving around work and trying to get our books in order. I am also doing some food photography on Thursday, so I have to get all the props and set together.

I am going...hopefully to the grocery store and then tonight my son has basketball practice

I am reading...Raising Men by Hal & Melanie Young.

I am hoping...for more patience with my son...he has been testing it today

I am hearing...my son burping out loud...gross (and refer back to "I am hoping"...again...patience)

Around the house...I am in the process of decluttering and trying to clean out closets and find new homes for the things we no longer use

One of my favorite things...Cuban food!!! found a new Cuban restaurant and I just love it...so I want to try and start making some of the recipes at home

A few plans for the rest of the week: school, a play, my son's last basketball game and an awards ceremony Saturday night

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...(one day I will figure out how to get the picture where I want it and not just at the top)

7 Quick Takes

Good Morning...I am going to "try" and make these 7 "really" quick takes because we have to leave for Basketball soon and once I start to blog, it usually isn't quick

1. My darling son is making me coffee this morning. He is so sweet and growing up too fast. I just started reading the book "Raising Real Men" by Hal & Melanie Young and it is about how to let boys be boys and how we can take all that "boy energy" and use it to make them grow to strong Christian men.

2. My sweet daughter announced yesterday that she wants to play soccer at our church. My son is playing basketball now through the Upwards program and he loves it. I am so excited for her and I am praying that she doesn't change her mind. She is very shy and has a hard time trying new things but she seems to be overcoming that more and more these days.

3. I am very tired this morning, we let the kiddos sleep in their new sleeping bags in our floor last night and of course they didn't want to go to sleep. I also let our 2 doggies stay out of their crates, so last night our room was full of 2 kids, 2 dogs & 2 cats...1 snoring hubby and 1 wide awake mommie...but at least I had plenty of time to read the above mentioned book LOL

4. speaking of the doggies..we have a new little yorkie. he is about 4 months old and then we have our lab and she is 4 years old. I am trying to train the little doggie with puppy pads that I keep out in our laundry room. So first thing in the morning I take her out there, shut the door and she does her business and then she gets a treat from me..with lots of "good boy"'s for using the pad. Well this morning as I am saying "good boy" and giving him is treat...I look over at the big lab (who of course does not use "puppy pads") and she is looking at me like" hmmm...i wonder if i go poop in the laundry room, will I get a treat???" so I may rethink my puppy training plan

5. my hubby is doing menu development tomorrow, so I get to take some food shots...very excited and but he is developing sandwiches so I won't be able to do any taste testing.

6. our little birdies are doing good..we saw the mom & dad yesterday. In our research yesterday we found out the mom & dad birds mate for life, which I thought was really sweet. It is neat to see how the parent birdies are watching from a distance and it made the kiddos feel better that the babies weren't just left behind :)

7. well...how do you end 7 quick takes really fast....2 kids fighting over 1 dog. And the day begins!!! Happy Saturday everyone!!

Two Little Birds

yesterday the kiddos found 3 little birds...one flew away and now there are 2. After some research on the internet, we think they are Mourning Doves. The kids are really worried about them because it seems the mother has left, but I think she is just watching from a distance...and maybe once they get big enough the mother does leave them. Since one has flown away already, maybe the other 2 are just taking a little longer. So our homeschool day is going to focus around birds and their habits. We were supposed to go to a Pow Wow this morning...but yesterday the battery on my car decided to die so we are kinda stuck here...which leaves us plenty of time for bird watching. I think later we will go for a walk around the neighborhood and see what other types of birds we have living here with us.
For now, I can't get the Bob Marley song out of my head...."Three Little Birds" and the first line in the song is "Don't worry about a thing...cause every little thing is alright" which is going to be my motto for the day....(I am hoping this helps me to not stress out about my car :)

The Simple Women's Daybook

FOR TODAY (I know i was supposed on Tuesday..but I am a day behind:)

Outside my window...is the beginning of another beautiful Florida day. My cat is sitting on the piano looking out at the lizards

I am thinking...about all the things I need to get done today for my hubby at the office.

I am thankful for...the great day that we had yesterday. We finished all our schoolwork and was able to go out and play for a while

From the learning rooms...a shorter day today because I have to go into the office and run some errands but I have all their workboxes filled and I will do math & readning one on one with each kiddo

From the kitchen...nothing :( with my hubby out of town, we usually just wing it but I am tired of junk this week, so I am going to plan a nice dinner....i just don't know what yet :)

I am wearing...sweats and my "new" favorite Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds concert shirt that my hubby brought back from their concert in Las Vegas

I am creating...still working on the baby blanket for my nephew. I think I am going to give up and buy a different kind of yarn. I do not like the way this one looks...so now I am thinking this blanket may end up being for my nephews KIDS...and I am also making myself a scarf & then a matching one for my daughter

I am going...to the grocery store, the pet store and to our church's skate party tonight

I am reading...nothing. I have been too tired at night to even read but I am think about reading Eclipse again, so I can be ready for the movie when it comes out

I am hoping...for a peaceful day and no fighting with my son over his school work and also a quiet day at the office with no problems. Yesterday morning, I had a box of meat show up from Jennie-O that was supposed to be here on Friday (they shipped it on Thursday)...so it was pretty ripe when Fed Ex dumped it at my front door so of course everything came to a halt while I figured out what to do with about 30 lbs of bad meat....I don't think I will eat turkey for a LONG time :)

I am hearing...the dogs playing and my son just waking up

Around the house...I am trying to organize slowly. I am back to the "fly lady" so I am only doing a little each day. This week is the master bedroom and today I have to clean off the floor of my closet and organize my shoes...not looking forward to that one...but it really needs to be done.

One of my favorite things...American Idol...I am super excited about this years contestants...i think it is going to be a good year!!! I didn't get to watch all of last nights performances, so we will get an early start tonight on our AI watching

A few plans for the rest of the week: our anniversay is Friday, so we are planning on getting a sitter and going out to dinner and on Saturday my son's basketball team is in the George Fest parade, so we are super excited.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing.... its up top...can't figure out how to move it :)

renewed spirit

I woke up this morning, no longer feeling over whelmed but instead renewed. I had a wonderful weekend and I was able to get alot accomplished. My husband & son went on their first camping trip together and I was able to spend some time with my daughter. On Saturday, I decided that I would not do any housework, or worry about all the things that needed to be done but instead focus on the time w/my daughter. I also decided that whatever we did, I would not spend any money...no going out to eat or shopping for a toy. So I had some great coupons for some card games, so we went to Target and bought 5 different card games and with the coupons and some extra money I had on a gift card, I was able to buy the games and a bottle of pink nail polish. All for less than $5 (so I did spend money, but it was on a gift card...so that doesn't really count, right??) So we came home, played games, took the doggies for a walk, and gave ourselves manicures and stayed up late watching TV. We had a ball and I think it was just what I needed. So on Sunday, I had decided that I was going to tackle all the clutter and get my house in order for the week. I was able to get all that accomplished and it was a nice feeling to wake up to a "somewhat" clean house. I am going back to the "Fly Lady" Zone system, instead of trying to tackle everything at once and hope that keeps me from the usual "crash & burn". My hubby left this morning for California and will be gone all week, so it will be quiet around here :) which will give me a chance to keep things caught up. I am hoping to double up on school work, because we did not accomplish much at all last week and we have alot of traveling coming up over the next few months. We just found out that hubby & Dole have been invited back to the Disney Food & Wine festival at Disneyland in April, so I am very excited about that. Disneyland is my favorite. At the end of March we are going down to Miami for a food show for a few days...which has me thinking...beach...shorts...bathing suit....ughhhh...time to get serious about trying to lose a few (well alot) of pounds, nothing like waiting till the last minute :) Well, I guess it is time to get the kiddies up and moving...they are sleeping a little late this morning...but they both woke up when hubby was leaving at 4:30, so maybe I should let them sleep. I am enjoying the quiet, but I know I will pay for it tonight when they can't go to sleep :)
